Gill raises pounds for pups

Gill Towgood, from Specsavers in Didcot raised £145 for Guide Dogs by walking more than 120,000 steps in one week.

The store’s receptionist took part in the Walk Your Socks Off challenge to fundraise for the charity which provides life-changing support, skills and dogs to people living with sight loss in the UK. With a target set of 100,000 steps, Gill stepped to it, completing 120,419 steps in total.

‘This is a simple, fun initiative to take part in and I’m just so grateful to all those who sponsored me,’ comments Gill. ‘As a team we’ve supported Guide Dogs over the years and despite the challenges of the pandemic it was good that we could do something this year too.’

In line with NHS recommendations, Specsavers colleagues use personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the stores, wear face masks and other PPE during tests, and all testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.

Appointments need to be made in advance and there are also restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store at any one-time, strict social distancing rules and, where possible, card instead of cash payments.
