Apprentice sets sights on career with Specsavers

To mark National Apprenticeship Week (7-13 February) a Didcot opticians is celebrating as one of its team members passes her apprenticeship with distinction.

Caitlin Whelan joined Specsavers in the Orchard Shopping Centre last year to embark on the company’s apprenticeship programme. Forward wind 12 months and 20-year-old Caitlin has passed with flying colors and has taken up a permanent role in store as an optical assistant. She’s now working towards her next qualification in optical dispensing.

‘We cannot express enough how proud of Caitlin we are and of her dedication and hard work,’ comments Specsavers Didot store director, Adela Garcia. ‘We really hope that this is just the beginning of a long career in optics for her and that it will be us championing her along the way.’

Caitlin adds; ‘The apprenticeship programme has been a fantastic confidence building experience – and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity and to have enjoyed it so much. I’ve been so lucky to have the support of the Specsavers Didcot team throughout the course, with plenty of time given to help me complete my studies, alongside advice and mentoring.

‘I’m now looking forward to the next chapter in my career and am delighted to be staying on with the fabulous team here at Specsavers.’

The Specsavers’ apprenticeship programme offers employees an excellent opportunity to enter the world of work in a safe and structured way, providing them with a real job and great training with around 94% of people on the scheme taking on a full-time job with Specsavers.
